10AM OR 11:30AM ET
The powerhouse ensemble of Colombian pianist, composer, and Folklore Urbano NYC artistic director Pablo Mayor, presents “El Barrio Project-CARIBE,” an exploration of the rich cultural enclaves that define NYC, giving homage to both the legacy of music in Spanish Harlem, and his native Colombia, while continuing his mission of #GlobalMusicToUnify. Pablo Mayor’s latest show features 7 musicians plus 2 dancers and is Folklore Urbano’s most danceable repertoire yet, crossing continents and cultures, blending sounds from West Africa, Colombia, Puerto Rico, Cuba, and NYC. Daniel Fetecua, choreographer, dancer, and Folklore Urbano NYC’s dance director, will present the dance traditions alongside the music.
The Folklore Urbano Orchestra has toured extensively, performing throughout Canada, Houston, Detroit, Chicago, Milwaukee, Boston, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, New York, and Colombia, and has featured renowned jazz and traditional Colombian vocalists like Sofía Rei and Ronald Polo and a host of NYC’s elite Colombian folkloric and jazz artists. Pablo’s highly-acclaimed CDs, Aviso, Baile/Dance, Corazón, and the newest El Barrio Project-CARIBE, have been broadcast throughout the world.
